Instructions
Memorials at Saint George are customarily celebrated at the end of Sunday Divine Liturgies. Saint George welcomes its parishioners to have memorials for the reposed souls of loved ones.
Please note that the name given should be the BAPTISMAL NAME of the individual (not a nickname) and in order to be commemorated audibly in the Divine Liturgy they must be/have been baptized Christians.
Please do the following:
1. Fill out the form on this webpage.
2. Select two preferred Sundays after reviewing our parish website calendar. Please do not select a Sunday if (1) there are already two memorial services (2) it is a major Feast Day (3) there is a baptism already scheduled.
3. Wait to be contacted by the Saint George office to confirm a memorial date. The office will answer questions and review what is customarily provided by the family, such as a framed photo of the loved one to be displayed during the memorial (may also be put in the bulletin if family requests), blessed wheat, and the agape meal. Saint George will happily assist families as needed.
What is a Memorial?
In the Orthodox tradition, a memorial is a service of prayer offered for those who have reposed in the Lord. When a person passes, it is customary for the grieving family and parish community to offer a memorial service in the church on the third, ninth and fortieth day after death.
In addition, it is customary to offer an annual memorial service every year on the anniversary of death.
A memorial consists of prayers, Psalter readings, hymns, and chants. Oftentimes, candles are lit, blessed wheat is prepared, and the presence of family and friends is encouraged.
Please review our Parish calendar here or under the Parish events tab at the top of the webpage before selecting dates below:
